In November, the Center for Public Policy Priorities (CPPP), through its partnership with RAISE Texas, assumed leadership of Texas Saves, after a few years off to do some soul-searching. CPPP will administer Texas Saves through the OpportunityTexas initiative, a statewide partnership to create good jobs, increase income, and promote savings.
Opportunity Texas is excited to participate in a nationwide campaign to help individuals and families save and build assets. Texas Saves, led by Opportunity Texas and as part of the broader America Saves Campaign, strives to promote and increase savings of Texas families, ultimately increasing the number of Texans who make a habit of saving—for college, retirement, homeownership, or general financial stability.
Assuming leadership of this campaign, OpportunityTexas plans to establish a new method of delivery, engagement and operation. The initiative will administer a low-touch, high- impact savings campaign, leveraging technology, social media and other web-based platforms. Texas Saves will employ broad partnerships to engage more savers, including employers, the private sector, non-profits and public institutions. Integration of the campaign into existing programs and services, via technology and collaborations, will help build a far-reaching and sustainable campaign that builds upon the strengths and activities of key local and statewide partners.
America Saves Week, February 20-27, is rapidly approaching. The week focuses attention on and awareness about the importance of saving money, with a primary focus on individuals taking financial action. As part of our inaugural Texas Saves Week, we would like to catalogue those organizations and institutions that have participated in America Saves Week in the past or plan to participate in 2011. If you would, please take a few minutes to fill out the survey below and let us know how you were or are involved. We also want to know how we can promote your savings products, tips and activities during this important week.
Responses received prior to February 7th will begin to circulate through statewide media channels prior to and during the Texas Saves week. We look forward to hearing and working with you all!
Texas Saves is currently under the leadership of Opportunity Texas, with the FDIC, The Texas Office of the Consumer Credit Commissioner and Texas AgriLife as key partners. Opportunity Texas is a joint project of the Center for Public Policy Priorities (CPPP) and RAISE Texas. CPPP is a non-partisan, non-profit policy institute committed to improving the social and economic condition of low and moderate income Texans. RAISE Texas is a statewide collaborative working to support and expand asset-building activities in Texas.
